Coffee Table

I made this piece in 1978 from a tree I cut in Avon, NY. It was made entirely with hand tools, except for the chain saw I used to slab the lumber. (Oh, wait... I got the wood back to my apartment in my MG with the seat removed. Does that count as a power tool?)

The top was bookmatched by slicing the slabs by hand, and hand planing them flat with a rubbed joint. The curved sides were created with a compass plane.

The style of this piece seems a little dated now, but it represents the beginning of a hobby that has now turned into a profession.
